4. WooCommerce Dashboard Options Overview

Video Summary

Alright guys, in the last lesson, we imported our demo theme. And we went through and checked to make sure all the demo data was working and it was. So now what I want you guys to do is we’re going to hop into the dashboard, and we’re going to quickly go over the WooCommerce settings right here. So basically WooCommerce the default generic WooCommerce plugin that we get, we get WooCommerce right here. We get our products that we can manage the analytics that go into our store and our products and we have a marketing piece right here. Alright, so what I want you to do first is, let’s click on WooCommerce or you can click on Home and what’s going to happen is, is that it’s going to want you to say it’s going to have this welcome to WooCommerce and then wants you to set up like this little setup wizard. Now, I don’t want you guys to go through this because it doesn’t add any real value to you as the developer. This whole thing this whole setup is just a way to get information about your business and your website. So that way they can potentially market or of sell to you Alright, so we at this point in this course, you guys are pretty much WordPress pros concerned the most people you know all the tips and tricks you know the fact that you guys know about world precedent and new buena.com is a game changer that most people just don’t know about. And you’re going to be able to get all these different extensions and products for free. And we don’t want to have WooCommerce force it down our throats. So basically what’s going to happen is they’re going to ask you to say what industry you’re in. That is just it does not matter what industry you’re in to run your WooCommerce store, right? They just want that information from you. Also to is they want to know what your product types are. What kind of products are you going to be selling? Is that a you know is a physical products is it downloads is it subscriptions?

And basically what they’re trying to get you to do by showing you this or when again when you get to the product types is that they’re trying to get you to buy the upgrades automatically. And we know that we’re not going to do that, you know what I mean? We have world precedent and new Boonah and we’ll be able to get pretty much 95% of everything we need from those two subscriptions. Right? And business details. They want to know how many products you’re going to have. Do you know, kind of feel or pieces of information? And what was the last thing they’re going to ask to is that hey, have you bought a theme yet? So they’re trying to sell it nor Fein down your throat? And I maybe they had changed maybe they’ve upgraded in the last couple years, but WooCommerce has only maybe like a couple handfuls of themes, and they’re all really basic and generic. So if you get a WooCommerce theme from WooCommerce then odds are that you’re going to have another store just like yours somewhere else. And the whole point of utilizing this course is that you’re gonna be able to take someone else’s theme transform it into yours. And even though that you and someone else might might use that exact same thing. Your two websites are going to look the same. They’re going to look completely different. So what I want you to do is just skip this store details.

Because what I’m just also to is when you say skip, they’re going to ask you build a better WooCommerce they’re going to ask you a fee if they can use usage trackers to to just kind of find additional bugs or find things that they can improve upon. Now since this is a demo, I’m going to say no thanks. But if you want to you and click yes count me in.

Know when you’re here when you’re at the home is trying to tell you the things you need to do add store details, add your products. We have a bunch of demo products. And you know we can set up our payments or tax rates or shipping costs get the business they’re just trying to they could the last couple ones are trying to upsell you on stuff on things to do next get we’re going to cover all this. So I want to get into this too much. I just want to go over quickly just the the options we have through WooCommerce. Right. So we have orders and basically that’s pretty self explanatory. We don’t have any orders right now. But this is the page where you will be able to manage those. You will have customers and customers are a little bit different than users is because some websites might have subscribers where they might they might have signed up for an account for the website to get kind of restricted content or you know gets or become on a mailing list. You know, trying to get a you know a promotions right but they might not actually be customers and the people who actually buy from you will become customers and you can manage them here.

And we won’t really need to go too much into marketing. Because the stock just basically overview and coupons, but coupons you’re able to set up on discount or dollar amount, percentage or dollar amount discounts. So this can work for subscriptions. If you have subscriptions if you have the subscriptions plug in. But this is a great tool to just entice customers to try to take advantage of a discount. We’ll go back to WooCommerce.

We have reports so reports are pretty great if you if you have if you’re trying to get like an idea of what your company is doing. You can do last 10 days this month, last month last year and you can also set up your custom your custom reports you can figure out your stock your customers you can do figure out sales by product, sales by category coupons, you can set all that up there. We all here’s settings so settings is settings is pretty, pretty important when it comes to WooCommerce because this is where because you remember the setup wizard they were just asking you to put in your information here. That was the only thing that they were actually giving you value for besides just trying to collect information upsell you. So we essentially switch that you can set up your store address right here. So that helps with kind of when you’re doing shipping rates and like if especially if you integrate into things like ShipStation and other maybe like UPS, there’s plugins that you can use to streamline that. So having your address here is pretty important. It’s also attached to the emails. So there’s some legalities stuff too, if there’s any issues but basically from here when we’ll go through all of these right as well but this will be another video. Well basically we got products you got shipping, how you set your payments, how you set up your accounts in the privacy.

So we just don’t have a Terms and Conditions page yet. So that’s not that big of a deal. So I’ll keep scrolling down and see if there’s anything else and the the two little warnings that I have are completely fine. We can you know as we’re building our site, we can reach out, you can reach out to us or you can reach out to your lawyer or someone who can write you up a terms and conditions.

You can also add new ones from the all products here or you can add new products here. You can also set your categories and your tags which is kind of like a you can sub categories and subcategories and tags is kind of like a minor. Like for instance like design develop popular. Those are kind of crappy tags to be honest, but like for instance like like if it was corn on the cob, right? Like that would be kind of corn or that might be vegetables, and then corn might be a tag. Right? So So you might have like maybe a mixture of we call it like a mixture of different vegetables and like like a bundled product you know you could use as you can use as a category or a tag it depends on how you want to set it up.

Attributes are attributes are basically just how we can set up variations. So let’s say if I had a t shirt, and I was selling a t shirt and I had multiple different colors, you can set that up through attributes and that’s how you can set up variable products as well. So let’s say if, let’s say if I did a variable product on my T shirt and sizes, maybe a child small might be a different price than a double XL for like for an adult. So you can set up different price variations off of attributes, and we’re going to set that up in another lesson, and we can also set up our review or you can set up reviews for your products. And you can manage your reviews through here. Now analytics. If we hover over here, again, we can go through it’s kind of very similar to reports. You can just maybe just click on revenue and be able to get a report on what revenue you want. We don’t got any sales or anything here yet because this is just a startup store. But you can really get some good information on where your stocks at how many downloads, you know what coupons are working, what variations are selling what categories are doing best and we’ve set up marketing and coupons. So that is the quick intro into just the default, the generic WooCommerce store. So what we’re gonna start doing is we’re going to start building out and under building out products. We’re going to start understanding how we can actually run the store, how we’re gonna be able to set up shipping and all of that. And once we understand the basics of WooCommerce then we’re going to start adding on different add ons that’s going to help really expand the functionality of your store and just make your life a lot easier. So I’m gonna stop this lesson here and we’ll move on to products.
