Video Summary

In this video, we’re going to start hopping into modems or the auto or mechanic auto pros website so we can actually learn how we can set up widgets through this theme. So right now I’m in news three, which was one of the kind of default options that came with the theme. And this one actually has some side widgets right here. So they got all categories, recent posts, and they have kind of a quick call to action section right here. And so what my what my first thought would be, as I always do, if I’m trying to play with these widgets is I go to a parents and I open up widgets. 

So this was like more of like the widget blocks like the Gutenberg block setup and this is more of just a kind of regular WordPress setup. So basically, they show you all your available widgets right here. And you can scroll down and you can set up and create as many as you want. Because you can also in the next couple lessons, we’re gonna be covering plugins so you can even find more widgets that you could use, you know, download and activate and as a plugin, use them over here. But basically, what you what you’re going to do is if there’s default sidebar, basically you could bring in your calendar, you could bring in your categories, you just drag and drop it over here, set up your title, and you’d be good to go. But what I’m seeing here is that there’s a default sidebar and I’m just gonna delete this. 

There’s the default sidebar, there’s the WooCommerce shop sidebar, because this theme did come with WooCommerce and then you can create your own widget area if you wanted. You can you could previously we could say let’s say let’s do just footer. Just create widget area. So now we could just set up and drag and drop as many widgets as we want here. Right? And we can call those later. But I’m not seeing any any widgets for what I’m seeing here. So my original thoughts going to be is let’s just open this up with Elementor and see what this what the page settings are. 

And so if I come over here, and let’s Oh, like so. So basically the way that this theme set it up is that they decided that here’s the here’s the section for these blog articles. And then they made this this the one column and then the other column over here, they decided that they have different elements right here. They have different intersections and different elements. So so basically you come here and click and now you’ve got your edit Categories section. So now essentially you can have you can have what do you call it on? Any kind of widget you have your your that’s available with your Elementor you can just drag and drop. And now you are set up with here and now you could essentially what we could do is we can just choose an image. Let’s just pick something at random. Just select this here. And now if we updated this, we could just refresh over here. 

Now nothing’s showing up. And I’m gonna tell you why. Because I remember when we were installing our WordPress application through SiteGround that you had the option where you could download in car or WordPress or WordPress plus WooCommerce Oh this one I did. So when we downloaded or we installed WordPress and WooCommerce at once, it gave us like already a shop page. They gave us a My Account page. But then when we import the demo data we had we pretty much duplicated and had the same pages place. If you look up here we have shop dash two and this was the page that we brought in but since there was already a shop, it was forced to add a dash to the second page. So if we back that up and just hit shop now our our shop page is here. And now if you look over here, we got product categories. We got products, we got product tags. Right. So if we come back here, and if we scroll down, let’s do product by rating. Let’s see if see what that is. Let’s see product categories. 

And now we got product categories. We got search, we got top rated products. And that is basically how you can set that up. It’s still the traditional way. You can just drag and drop everything here. It’s just that you know, it’s a different setup than the HP bakery page builders. And I guarantee you that just because the Elementor looks like this and the WP bakery looks like this doesn’t mean that that’s like constant. I’ve used tons. I mean, I mean hundreds of different WordPress themes over the last five or six years. And I’ve ran into both. And recently, this is fairly new. This is something that just came out about maybe a year, year or two ago that I can remember, but either way it’s the same principles the same thing. I’m going to do it like the only differences I like this really honest I like this one a little bit better because I think it’s just more visually appealing. 

You know, the, the one thing that is kind of hard is like if you want something here, see if you want taxed. There’s a way that you can do it. You can just drop it down and then click let’s say if you wanted to shop widget, we can click here and add it there. So you have to drag and drop it the whole time. 

But other than that, that is how you can set up and manage your widgets. So I’m gonna pause this video and we’ll just wrap up the widget section. so see you guys in the next lesson.
