Video Summary
Today we’re gonna go over HTML 5 website structure and understanding the basics.
HTML is the standard query language that all websites are built upon. It gives each web page structure and functionality and consists of a series of elements and tags that are designated for certain features on the web pages. It also connects other coding languages and analytics in an all-in-one document.
Here’s an example of HTML right over here. This is a real simple example of HTML structure. And I’m gonna go over what each of these sections are and how it’s built here in a second, but before I do, I want to give a little bit of context to what you’re seeing with this different code.
Before I get to that, let’s talk about elements and tags. They’re basically connected and almost the same, but I like to break them up because it actually gives a little bit more context to what each one is.
Each element needs to be wrapped in these tags. For instance, if you have an H1, which is basically a heading one, each one has to start off with a left pointing bracket, the label for what that element is and a right pointing bracket, the content that you have, and then we wrap that in a left pointing bracket a forward slash the same ID the h one right, right here and here, right pointing bracket. How we set these up is we just stack these on as we want them in order on the web page.
The next part is what we call the head. This is the header that the user doesn’t see. We can actually start linking it to other coding documents so if we have a CSS styling page, or a JavaScript page, or even a PHP code, we can link everything in between here.
The next is the title. This is a very important section to every HTML page. The good thing about WordPress is that we can designate these titles really easy in a title tag, we don’t actually have to implement the code.
Also, I’m going to show you how we’re going to access to coding editors. We’re not going to go into super deep coding stuff. I just do want to show you the overall structure of the site. When we actually start building it’s going to make a lot more sense and it’s gonna give you a lot more insight and how each page is structured. You might not actually be coding these in your website. But you’re going to be leveraging predefined elements that these code or these page builders and these themes are using. Getting a lot of insight now is going to help you move a lot faster when you get. So in this slide I have two links to show you the code editors that we’re going to go over and if you have any questions, feel free to reach out. These are both free to use and simple. I’m excited to start on the next lesson.
