Video Summary
This lesson overview is going to cover how we’re going to understand the five main coding languages.
We’re gonna learn how each language works with each other and its design functionality. We’re also gonna learn what coding languages are vital to understanding and mastering WordPress and don’t worry, learning the basics is a simple process.
The coding languages cover HTML 5, CSS 3, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL.
HTML is the framework and the structure of how every web page is built. It is the building block of everything that goes into a website. Now CSS 3 is how we style each and every web page. JavaScript is what kind of brings the website to life. It brings interactive features and really makes the website pop. PHP is basically the core functionality of how WordPress is built. That’s what’s gonna give us the e-commerce functions. MySQL is the coding language that interacts with the database. All the information that we want to store from the website is what MySQL is designated for.
HTML essentially is the coding language that every website is built on. This is where we have the basic structures of every website. That includes headings, paragraphs, images, icons, being able to underline bold, and just manipulate any kind of content that we want on our website. This isn’t a hard coding language, and we’re not going to be coding HTML. We’re not going to be coding websites from scratch. But we do want to understand the basics of HTML because this is the web page builder that WordPress uses in incorporating these HTML elements. So if we can understand what they look like in a raw form, that means that we can really leverage the tools on the WordPress platform.
Now, CSS ID 3 is basically short for Cascading Style Sheets. And basically what that is it’s, it was made to make coding easier for developers. And it allows us to really manipulate different elements on the webpage. For instance, if we’ve got a theme and we want to change the colors on certain elements, this is how we’re going to be able to do this. And we’re gonna go through with this course and I’m gonna show you how you can get in and easily manipulate the CSS code. And again, this is a very simple, easy, straightforward coding language. We’re not going to have to learn how to do functions or any kind of mathematics. This is just basic building block tech stuff. So we’re gonna go over this fairly extensively as well, because between HTML and CSS we’re really going to make our websites pop.
Now, JavaScript, we’re not going to get into this coding language, but I do want to cover it because it is fairly important to understand that JavaScript is what really makes the website interactive. So if you want to have a sliding image, like an image slider, where everyone can just see one image and every so often, a new one will pop up. So that way you’re maximizing the space. If you want to have a toggle feature where maybe you want to have frequently asked questions and you don’t want to have everything take up a bunch of space as someone clicks on that little plus sign that we know about. All those things are JavaScript.
And again, we’re not going to go into JavaScript. Learning JavaScript from scratch is a whole other monster. And the whole point of this course is to be able to learn how to just learn the basics to be able to really take a WordPress website, transform it and have a professional-looking website that you guys can manage on a day-to-day basis without having to code and also is the reason why we’ve moved on 90% of our websites over to WordPress is that we can do things a lot faster. And we don’t really want to build things from scratch because it just takes too long and we want to be efficient with our time, especially as business owners.
So PHP on the cover is what the real core functionality of how WordPress is built. This is how a coding language interacts with a database to store certain information. This is the coding language that allows e-commerce to function so that we can utilize payment methods. We can have a bunch of our products store the prices that we have. The reason why I really want to go into PHP is because we’re not going to learn this coding language ourselves. Again, that’s a whole another monster. And that’s not the point.
Of course, the point of this course is to be able to build high-functioning websites that we can manage as business owners right but once in a while you’ll come or you might have a situation where your website functionality isn’t working or you just have a very unique business problem that no real plugin can solve.
